Another Dravid In The Making – Rohit Sharma

About twenty days ago, after the squad for the CB Series was picked,I was talking about the need of a quality Batsman who could be technically correct to counter the Australian wickets.I was very disappointed to see Rahul Dravid being left out of the squad.I still abide by it.

But then the selectors have done one thing right by getting in the youngster Rohit Sharma. He seems to be replicating himself with Rahul Dravid as his model. He is so very compact technically. He has adjusted so very quickly to these tracks where his counter parts like Yuvraj Singh and M.S.Dhoni have struggled to score.

The drives which he played during the first encounter of the CB Series against the Aussies was a treat to watch.I still remember the knocks which Rahul Dravid played against the Australians during the double ton knock in 2005 series. One could compare those shots with this one.It was so very technically correct.

I don’t mean that Rohit Sharma is as good as Rahul Dravid is.But even he has it in him to be a pretty good player as Rahul is.Rohit Sharma also layed a wonderful knock during the match against the Sri Lankans at Canberra. He has this cool head on his shoulders.

He also has this added advantage which Rahul Dravid lacked at the begining of his career. That is his ability to play the big shots and up the tempo. He literally dominated Muttiah Muralidharan along with Gautam Gambhir. The six that Rohit Sharma hit off Muralidharan’s bowling was outstanding.I’ve not seen a youngster dominate Muralidharan in tha fashion for quite sometime now.

Rohit Sharma is also a very good fielder.I’ve seen him knock down the stumps quite a number of times by now. He’s seem to made it a habit. He’s so very quick and agile. All I can see is his performance getting better and better as he goes on.He’s a pretty good prospect and is the right person to replace Rahul Dravid in the test squad when Dravid plans to hang his boots.

Rohit Sharma is no Rahul Dravid. Look at young Rohit now. Looks like all of his runs have dried up. It’s very easy to go and make 70 odd score on a given day but to do it consistantly needs something more. India haven’t fared so well in this series and they could have won these close games had they kept wickets in hand and had someone to play the anchor role(Dravid). Instead you see Dhoni playing more like Dravid and being patient and not going bang bang. If Dravid was there then Dhoni could have played his naturally agressive game and the team would have been more balanced.

@Jenifer Hayden : Well…I never said he is better than Dravid…Rather I meant that he is just the one in the making…He’s still a young kid and needs loads of time to get there…But I meant he was somewhere up close there to Dravid in his technique…Dravid can’t be neglected…He is a king on his own…And as for Dhoni, even I feel that he should open up…Anyways thanks for your comment… Do keep checking my blog when you feel like and leave the comments that pushes me forward…
