Gilly Comes To Party With The Fastest Century

When the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers needed a magic to get themselves started in the IPL tournament, their Vice-Captain and the dashing Wicket-Keeper, Adam Gilchrist has proved his worth. He smashed a century of a record 42 balls, the fastest of the IPL and the fourth Century of this tournament. He ensured that the Deccan Chargers reached the set target with ease and without much fuss.

At the end of over number 10, Gilly scored a century with a huge hit off Abhishek Nayar over deep mid-wicket. He never stopped there and made sure that they won the game with all the wickets intact. Adam Gilchrist remained unbeaten on 109* of just 48 balls and V.V.S.Laxman on 36* off 29 balls. Gilchrist, in due course, hit 9 fours and 10 sixes in his innings. Had it been Deccan Chargers batting first, we might well have seen the first double hundres in T20 history. With the way he was going, it was a strong possibility.

With this knock, Gilchrist has announced himself at IPL and you can expect many more knocks like these. He was tremendous. You could literally see the crowds and the opponents left clueless of what they were witnessing. Earlier, the Mumbai Indians had reached 154/7 of their 20 overs, thanks to a late blossom from Shaun Pollock, Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo. But that never proved to be enough with Gilly in this form.

Just think of this. The team still had big hitters of the ranks of Andrew Symonds and Shahid Afridi who had to wait out. Well, that should bring jitters in the opponents’ backbone. A special mention is needed for the six which Gilly hit to bring up his ton. It was a tremendous hit. Just try watching it if you can.
