The history repeats. To my liking ( or even to Ganguly’s for that matter ) it has happened very quickly. Saurav Ganguly was again on the verge of being pushed aside and out of International Cricket for once. But his strong record has saved his head again. One of the selectors said his experience, character and resilience has put him ahead of the youngsters like Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif. They feel these three qualities are very important for a tough series against Australia.

As a build up to the series, Saurav Ganguly is expected to play a India A test against New Zealand A as he has not been a part of the current team who are at a conditioning camp at Bangalore. Ganguly has an impressive average of 50.67 aggregating 1571 runs since his comeback in December 2006 during which he has also scored a maiden double century. The surprise packages were Amit Mishra and Subramaniam Badrinath. Both made it to the 15 member squad.

Badrinath said he expected a call up. What the selectors have done is that they have sent a strong message. Badrinath will be under the shadow and will me the most likely one to replace Ganguly. Meanwhile Mishra will be the third spinner and likely to be the successor of Kumble. Too ealry to make a call. But this seems to be the pattern. Pragyan Ojha and Piyush Chawla were left out. I felt Ojha deserved a place in this squad.

Meanwhile the news from the camp is that the team has been really working hard on its fitness and the bowlers on getting their rhythms right. They were made to bowl with teh fifth stump just to get thier ” just outside off stump ” line right. The first Test starts in Bangalore on October 9. The second is in Mohali from October 17-21. The squad for the remaining fixtures, in Delhi and Nagpur, will be named after the second Test. Here’s the squad :

  • Anil Kumble
  • Virender Sehwag
  • Gautam Gambhir
  • Rahul Dravid
  • Sachin Tendulkar
  • Saurav Ganguly
  • V.V.S. Laxman
  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni
  • Harbhajan Singh
  • Zaheer Khan
  • Ishanth Sharma
  • Munaf Patel
  • R.P. Singh
  • Subramaniam Badrinath
  • Amit Mishra

Shaun Tait Is Set For A Comeback

Posted in Cricket tagged , , , , , , at 6:54 pm by techtwist

Shaun Tait looked a happy man when he said he was hungry to get back to Cricket and start doing what he knows best, pick up wickets. He had quit International Cricket indefinitely in January and said he wanted to spend time for himself after a poor show at Perth against the Indians. Even then, he was given a Central Contract by Cricket Australia.

Shaun Tait also said that he was very disappointed with the media when they said he was suffering from depression. He said “I didn’t get diagnosed with depression although a few media people have been displaying that. I get annoyed with the media. They cause a hell of a lot of problems in general. I don’t think the media realise what they do to people’s lives. They ruin people.” That surely shows how hurt he was.

He also said “It’s given me a massive desire to come back and play cricket rather than concentrate on other things in my life and have a crack for a few years.I am the only South Australian with a [Cricket Australia] contract and have a point to prove.” Clearly he knows what his job is. Thats a positive sign for both, himself and Cricket Australia. He is scheduled for a comeback in T20 competitions in English County in a couple of weeks time.

Rules For The Selectors?

Posted in Cricket tagged , , , , , , at 1:07 pm by techtwist

Do you think that it is high time that the rules be framed for the selectors just like what they have for the players?Don’t you think that it is really unfair to actually announce a team inbetween a series?I’m not writing this just because Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly were dropped for the One Day series. But my point of view is that this axing would affect the best player in the world knowing that he has done his best and yet has been axed for no reason.

Why do you have to announce a team inbetween a series? What do you guys gain out of it?It may also hamper the morale of the team.Even Anil Kumble has expressed his opposition to selecting a team inbetween an on-going series. Those guys who are dropped would be dejected and would have already started to think about how to stage a comeback. That too players like Dravid and Ganguly who are at the peak of their careers and having performed pretty well with Ganguly aggregating more that 1000 runs last calender year would feel that they have been subjected to some harsh decisions.

See the Australians? They found that Shaun Tait was disappointed and was dejected for the same and henceforth have backed him to play the next match also to prove his worth.for this they have rested Mitchelle Johnson for bringing in Brad hogg rather dropping the most probable one,Shaun Tait.Thats the way to boost a side and not to hurt one’s spirit.

So I feel that it is better that BCCI comes up with some sort of Preamble for the selectors.May be they can chart a team and have it ready and announce it at the end of the ongoing series. This way they can lessen the burden on the player going to be dropped.Kindly post your views guys.Anyone against it?All are welcome to comment.
