5 Teams To Battle For 3 Spots In The Last Phase

We’ve had some remarkable performances and some unbelievable periods of game during this IPL so far. But yesterday was the day during which two teams who were all set to win the game, went on to lose it. It was not because of some spirited bowling, but due to their own inconsistency. First it was the Mumbai Indians against the King’s XI Punjab and then it was Chennai Super Kings against Bangalore Royal Challengers. Both the teams were on course of victory and they snatched defeat from it somehow. Mumbai lost the game by 1 run chasing 190 and Chennai lost the game by 14 runs chasing 127. What must have hurt them most will be that they were in a great position to win and make themselves feel good by getting closer to the semi-finals.

But the defeat opens up the gate again and the race heats up for the semi-finals again. Check out this for the Points Table. Kolkatta Knight Riders are on 10 points right now and have two more games left. They have to ensure that they win those two games and keep hoping that Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings remain struck on 14 points and then the net run-rate will come into play to decide who proceeds further.

Delhi Daredevils are somewhat in a easier position as of now with 12 points to their tally. They can do with one win in the remaining matches but two wins will ensure their spot. Their next two games are with Mumbai Indians and Kolkatta Knight Riders and if they manage to win both and even if Mumbai win against the Rajasthan Royals and Bangalore Royal Challengers, net run-rate will be considered. If Chennai Super Kings lose both their games against Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers, then Delhi have to win just one game to zoom into the Semi-Finals.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, are in a tricky situation with 12 points. If Delhi wins the next two games and Mumbain win two of their three games or win one and hope that Chennai goes onto lose their last two games, then they can go into the Semi-Finals. If they manage to win all the three, then other results won’t matter for them.

Even Chennai Super Kings are in a tricky situation just like Mumbai Indians but with 14 points. If Delhi Daredevils lose all their games, then Chennai can manage to go through without a victory. If Delhi and Mumbai manage one win, then it’ll be down to the net run-rate if we don’t win. If Delhi goes onto win both their games then Chennai must win one of their two games to be in the race. Their next two games are against Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers, both at either extremes and have nothing to lose.

King’s XI Punjab are comfortably placed with 16 points. They can manage even by losing all the three games. But another win would ensure that they go on smoothly without having to depend upon the net run-rate to decide who proceeds.

Clearly, anything can still happen from here on and no one is quite sure with who will go through. Lets see how it goes on from here.

Missing Stars

Posted in IPL tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 12:51 pm by techtwist

11 days into IPL. We have seen everything from fastest centuries to ban. What a week this has been for Cricket lovers and Cricket analysts. It has been a stunning display this summer in India which I thought would never happen when I used to watch the English County. Here are some of the stars who’ll go missing from their respective line-up to complete their National Duty.

Brett Lee – This Aussie pacer has picked up four wickets in this edition of IPL and has been vital picking up wickets at the top. In this edition, he has appeared in four games and averages 28 with the ball at an economy of under 7, which is quite good considering the nature of this format. His pace and variations on the flat tracks to decieve batsmen will be missed by King’s XI, Mohali.

Matthew Hayden – The powerful left-hander played a couple of superb innings for his team, Chennai Super Kings. He took the attack to the opposition. He now has the Orange Cap as he leads the list with a total of 189 in four games at an average of 88 and a strike rate of 157.14. The team will miss him badly at the top.

Jacob Oram – Another member of the Chennai Super Kings. he wasn’t successful in the first two games on the IPL. But M.S. Dhoni kept faith in him and he picked up the Man-Of-The-Match in the very next game picking three crucial wickets in the process againt the Kolkatta Knight Riders. His services with the bat lower down the order and his bowling will be missed.

Michael Hussey – He holds the record for the third fastest century in the IPL scored of 50 balls. He has been in very good form and has been dominating attacks. He has been scoring at a rate of 192.06 and averages 121 and has a total of 168 from four games. No doubt why he is called Mr.Cricket as he adapts to any form easily. Chennai Super Kings will miss his consistency.

Brendon McCullum – He set IPL ablaze in the first game. He has been the most explosive batsman in the tournament and is a captain’s delight. He has provided some good starts for the Kolkatta Knight Riders. They will miss this fire power at the top of the order and I don’t think there is any replacement for him. He leads the sixes column with a total of 15 from 4 games.

Ricky Ponting – He had a poor time at IPL averaging 6.66 and scoring 20 from 4 games. But a player like him needs just one knock to get back on track. Kolkatta Knight Riders will miss getting some inputs and strategies form him and will be surely be disappointed to see him go without a good knock.

Daniel Vettori – He just played one game in this edition. But no one can undermine his left arm spin and lusty hitting abilities. He can win you games single handedly on his day. His abilities will be missed by Delhi Daredevils.

Andrew Symonds – He has the second fastest century in IPL. His abilities are World renowned in all the departments. He has done justice to his price tag. he averages 80.50 and has a strike rate of 153.33. His services and ailities will be missed by Hyderabad Deccan Chargers.

Ross Taylor – He played a couple of short but effective innings for his side, Bangalore Royal Challengers. He was destructive. His absence will be a big hole for the Bangalore team who are depleted in the Batting department with no big-hitters in their ranks. He scored a total of 44 runs at 33.50 in two games. He boasts of a strike rate of 209.37 which promised much more.

Simon Katich – This Australian left-hander has been a surprise package. He too has done his bit for the King’s XI Punjab team providing good starts at the top. Yuvraj Singh will miss him for sure for it will bring a lot of pressure on him to fill the gap and score runs which he shared with Katich.

The Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals are the only unchanged sides. Even with full strength, Mumbai Indians are finding it tough to get their magic going.

Gilly Comes To Party With The Fastest Century

Posted in IPL tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 11:06 pm by techtwist

When the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers needed a magic to get themselves started in the IPL tournament, their Vice-Captain and the dashing Wicket-Keeper, Adam Gilchrist has proved his worth. He smashed a century of a record 42 balls, the fastest of the IPL and the fourth Century of this tournament. He ensured that the Deccan Chargers reached the set target with ease and without much fuss.

At the end of over number 10, Gilly scored a century with a huge hit off Abhishek Nayar over deep mid-wicket. He never stopped there and made sure that they won the game with all the wickets intact. Adam Gilchrist remained unbeaten on 109* of just 48 balls and V.V.S.Laxman on 36* off 29 balls. Gilchrist, in due course, hit 9 fours and 10 sixes in his innings. Had it been Deccan Chargers batting first, we might well have seen the first double hundres in T20 history. With the way he was going, it was a strong possibility.

With this knock, Gilchrist has announced himself at IPL and you can expect many more knocks like these. He was tremendous. You could literally see the crowds and the opponents left clueless of what they were witnessing. Earlier, the Mumbai Indians had reached 154/7 of their 20 overs, thanks to a late blossom from Shaun Pollock, Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo. But that never proved to be enough with Gilly in this form.

Just think of this. The team still had big hitters of the ranks of Andrew Symonds and Shahid Afridi who had to wait out. Well, that should bring jitters in the opponents’ backbone. A special mention is needed for the six which Gilly hit to bring up his ton. It was a tremendous hit. Just try watching it if you can.

Election Forces Change In Schedule

Posted in IPL tagged , , , , , at 7:01 pm by techtwist

The proposed elections in Karnataka has forced changes in the IPL schedule. The matches between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Mumbai Indians and another between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers have been rescheduled. The former has been postponed from May 10 to May 28 and the latter has been a switch. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers will visit Bangalore on May 3 Bangalore Royal Challengers will visit Hyderabad on May 25. Charu Sharma, the CEO of the Bangalore franchise, said that the change was made after consulting the two Boards as they felt that theit might be lack of security and hospitality due to the elections. So beware of the change in dates.
