Sir Donald Bradman was a special player and the World speaks of him still. Recently his family and CA celebrated his centenary. The Australian players were invited for a lunch. All of them spoke of so many things thats happening in World Cricket. Gilly was asked whether the emergence of T20 would thrash Test cricket and he striaght away said a no.

He said the World had survived the threat of ODI and World Series a few decades ago and hence even this would be overcome even though T20 is booming into a real big one. He is bound to lead the Deccan Chargers next year. He also admitted that he enjoyed playing Cricket in India. He has never met the Don before. John Bradman said,”He thought his ability was absolutely second to none and that his modesty and integrity was of the very highest order.” John Bradman is the Don’s son.

Sri Lankans Dominate

After a splendid batting display assisted with dismal fielding performance, Sri Lankans have the upper hand on the Indians. At the end of Day 2 at SSC, Sri Lankans ended up with a score of 422 for 4 having recovered from a shaky start of 85 for 2. Malinda Warnapura ( 115 ) brought up his second ton in his fifth test match and he displayed his like to play spinners dominating the Indian spinners with ease.

His innings finally came to an end when he was dismissed by Harbhajan Singh. It was then Mahela Jayawardene’s ( 136 ) turn to dominate the Indian attack. He was at his very best and milked the bowlers with ease. He was chasing Sir Don Bradman’s record of most number of centuries at a venue. Sir Don Bradman had scored nine centuries at MCG and Jayawardene succeeded in equalling that feat. He has also scored almost a quarter of his test runs at SSC which also turns out to be his home ground. He has scored 2,167 runs at an average of 83.34 in 20 tests which is also a record for the most number of runs at a venue.

Then it was the turn of another lad from the same place, the hard hitting Thilan Samaraweera ( 111* ), to score his ton. He paced his innings beautifully at looked very comfortable against the Indian attack. He will come out tomorrow to start of afresh. But this innings was a treat to watch. This is the first time that three batsmen have scored centuries at the Singhalese Sports Club.

The other notable points were the review system which came into play in the 46th over when umpire Mark Benson ruled down a decision. However the batsman was declared not out. There were two more such reviews, both unsuccessful from the Indian perspective. Overall, a very productive day for the Lankans who now sit merrily atop.

SCG – Sachin’s Cricket Ground???

Posted in Cricket tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 4:44 pm by techtwist

I saw one of these placards displaying ” SCG – Sachin’s Cricket Ground “. That might be true, but there was some history that the Indians, especially the Master Blaster, was keen to re-write. Probably something started to bloom inside him after he recieved Sir Don’s bat from the SCG Museum on Saturday which he admitted was special to follow it up with a century.

Though SCG has been named as above, the Indian’s ODI record has been very pathetic there. Of the 13 ODI’s that India has played there before this one, they’ve lost all the matches. So they needed the Master to show his class and stamp his authority.

Chasin 240, Indians never looked in trouble for the major part. After Yuvraj Singh’s departure, the young Rohit Sharma joined hands with the Master Blaster, his role model, and moulded the innings beautifully. Sachin played some exuberant strokes in due course. He drew on all his experience to upset the bowlers, especially when they tried something different. Mitchell Johnson came round the wicket and pitched it short into his body but Tendulkar simply arched back to shoulder the ball over the empty slip region – just enough to beat third man.

Rohit Sharma was very quick between the wickets and made sure that he gave most of the strike to Sachin Tendulkar. Due to Sachin’s influence, Rohit Sharma benefitted a lot and Sachin felt comfortable with the lad from his hometown. They complemented each other beautifully.

The Toss :

After what the critics had in store for the Little Master, he replied in a way that he has been doing for years now. Sachin finally agreed that he wanted to make sure Indians won this match as also to be sure that he sets his own record in Australia and the Indian record at Sydney properly. Ah!!! What a feel it would have been to get a century and also to have set so many records right.

Other highlighting points of the day was Hayden reaching his 6000th ODI run and Hussey’s wonderful effort to dismiss Robin Uthappa. I’ve also planned to embed all the videos of this CB Series Final as this will be the last of the kind.

I've not seen a more diplomatic player than Sachin Tendulkar. Also on screen in the coming video is my other favourite player, Adam Gilchrist. Do check this out. Don't miss it.

Another Feather In The Making For Sachin???

Posted in Cricket tagged , , , , , , , , at 12:26 pm by techtwist

What a week has this been for the Indian Cricket fans? They’ve tasted success in all quarters. Now probably they may see one of their best ever warriors being bestowed with a Knighthood.

The British Prime Minister gordon Brown has strongly favoured that let Sachin Tendulkar be nominated for the Kinghthood by the British Independent Honours Committee. But he said that it is upto them to decide.

He said that Sahin Tendulkar has done a wonderful work for taking Cricket, their National Sport,to great heights and hence felt that he deserves the ‘Sir’ title that has been owned by some of the best the game has ever seen like Sir Don Bradman,Sir Richard Hadlee and Sir Gary Sobers.

This would be another feat for the Little Master who has done some wonders throughout his career that has spanned for over 17 years.Gordon Brown felt that this would be a good way to appreciate and admire the achievements of one of the game’s best.

Sir Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar sounds really good.I personally think he deserves this after all that he has done for the sport.Let his career extend for a few more years.
